Exposed

I thought I saw you.
Alas, it was a chimera of beauty
that dazzled my eyes.

I neatly dressed you,
fashioning a love of my own.
Now you must disrobe
and expose the seduction of my drunken ego.

There comes a time when a man must peer
deeply within,
pondering,
amid the doubt and fear.

Is it you, or rather my soul
who reopens this wound?

For now, my energy flows out,
looking for lively interplay.
But finding none,
returns and plunges me into the depths,
where wave upon wave of lamentation washes over,
breaking upon a shore of ardent longing.
