How do we approach the Living One? How can we possibly speak to God?
How do we bridge the gulf between our poor humanity and his Divinity – from our unlimited selfishness to his Infinite Goodness?
Jesus, whose life was so hard, makes it so easy to approach the Father. He painstakingly consumed our shameful behavior that we might have confident access to God.
So how do we process and assimilate a love that nullifies the darkest moments we freely choose for ourselves, the acts that reduce our integrity to a heap of ashes?
We close the distance between us and God through love. Love is the transport to communion with the Father. Love is the quickest and shortest route to the All Loving One.
God is one hundred percent – infinitely – for us. He has put himself out there in the most unfathomable way for us, for our welfare. Because He is the Love, He has made himself completely vulnerable to our affections and love. When we leave Him, it hurts in an infinite way. He grieves because He truly desires our love and because He sees what we will lose by rejecting his.
If we have any love within us, we know when we have offended all sense of goodness. We know when we have cut ourselves off from those who love us. And no one loves us more than the One who created us.
He is so merciful and wants nothing more than our love. He wants us to be his little children, confessing our wrongs and rebellious ways, and trusting Him to give us his full love and unconditional acceptance in return. Having us close at his side once again is all his idea in the first place.
When we are meek and humble and truly sorry for our personal depravity and diseased soul, our Father wants to wrap his arms around us. He finds it hard to refuse us anything. He is eager to show his kindness.
