Tree of Life

by | 1984

Our love is like a tree,
taking root in the earth as
it reaches out to the heavens.
The soil is fertile.
The climate is right.
This tree, I know, will be strong.

Growing more beautiful through its seasons,
this tree of love will blossom with children,
fruit of kindness and caring:
a cycle of love.

In the shade of our growth
our family and friends will gather.
Love and friendship will forever crown our marriage.

There is another tree,
ancient, towering and all encompassing.
It is the tree of God’s love and unique presence to us.

Here we will grow within the nurturing care of the Father.
The Father and only God,
Whose wisdom reaches across time.
The Ancient of Ancients,
Who continually unfolds before us the marvels of His love.
The Creative Light,
Who helps us discover the hidden,
wonderful designs of our lives.

It is the Creator, Who has known us each from the beginning.
The Divine Lover Who calls us by name.
Names that are precious and unique.
Together we will discover them.
Together we will uphold the dignity of that most intimate discovery.

For us, this is the mystery of married love:
knowing the true God and His Son Jesus
through the incarnation of Their oneness in our lives.
By receiving Them, we plant ourselves in a communion of Life.

For our union in God is like a tree of Life.
Taking root in the labor of our love,
touching others, reaching new heights.
The soil is fertile.
The climate is right.
This tree, I know, will be strong.
