I Have a Heart

by | 1975

I went up into the mountains in September
and wished you were there.
I chose an unknown trail to empty my thoughts upon,
hoping to unwind in its winding,
to be lifted in its rising.

When it seemed right, I paused along the way.
And as I rested, panning the view before me,
my eyes framed and photographed fields and trees,
skies and mountains of light.

From the void of my being welled the desire to
wrap my arm around you.

I wished you beside me,
tracing the invisible springing up before us.
I wanted to touch through you,
through a single heart, mind and body –
to be one with Another.
